I created this Oil Painting on Canvas in 1990.
Meera Bai, was an aristocratic Hindu mystical singer and devotee of lord Krishna from Rajastan and one of the most significant figures of the Sant tradition of the Vaishnava bhakti movement.
As an infant Meera became deeply enamored of an iconic idol of Krishna owned by a visiting holy man; she was inconsolable until she possessed it and kept it all her life.
Meera�s marriage was arranged at an early age, traditionally to Prince Bhoj Raj, the eldest son of Rana Sanga of Chittor. However her new family did not approve of her piety and devotion when she refused to worship their family deity and maintained that she was only truly married to Krishna.

Born and brought up in India, a land of Art, Culture and spirituality, I got the love for art from my father, who was a great appreciator of my paintings and inherited the love for life from my mother. They both were strong believers of God. My father would sing prayers daily with one of his musical instrument and my mother would perform Hawan daily. And so my paintings reflect a very musical and spiritual feel. The human faces I paint, have angelic expressions. My family was very conservative, so I was confided to my city where I pursued my Bachelor and later Master’s degree in FINE ARTS....
